USA narrative
Coaches must have 3 current safety cards in order to be USA Swimming certified as a coach. Copies of the front and back of these cards must be sent in with the annual USA Registration Form.

Do I have to Take the Test? First Time Coach Requirements info The new coach requirements apply to any coach who registered with USA Swimming for the FIRST time after September 1, 1998. The new requirements state that first year coaches must pass the new coach test prior to registering for their second year as a USA Swimming coach member. There is no set test deadline, however your membership expires on December 31st. If you don’t pass the test prior to December 31st, you will not be able to coach until you pass the test and re-register.

Coaches who also swim competitively: Coaches or any other USA registered Non-Athletes who also wish to compete in USA Swim Meets as athletes must be registered BOTH as a Coach and as an Athlete with United States Swimming. It is not sufficient to be registered only as a Coach. Also, USMS Registration {Masters Swimming} is not recognized for USA sanctioned swim meets.
